KABUL (SW) – Officials of the Ministry of Public Health have started the anti-polio vaccination campaign in the eastern provinces of the country, which will continue for four days.
According to the officials of the ministry, 1.2 million children under the age of five will receive polio or polio vaccine in this campaign.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health, Sharaft Zaman Amarkhel told Salam Watandar that this campaign has started in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar and Nuristan provinces and will continue until Tuesday this week. He said: “According to the plan of the Ministry of Public Health, an anti-polio vaccination campaign will be started in Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Nuristan provinces and it is decided that 1.2 million children will be vaccinated in this campaign. This campaign will continue for four days.”
Officials of the Ministry of Public Health are asking families in this province to vaccinate their children under the age of five against polio.
Afghanistan and Pakistan are the two countries in the world that have not completely eradicated the polio disease and new positive cases of polio have been recorded in both countries this year.
It is worth mentioning that two positive cases of polio were recorded in Paktika and Kunar provinces of Afghanistan in the year 2022. Since the beginning of this year, five positive cases have been recorded in the country, all of which are in eastern Nangarhar province.
