KABUL (SW) – A number of passengers and drivers on the Kabul-Kandahar highway say that due to the dreadful state of this highway, they always face delays and obstacles when traveling and transporting patients.

Noor al-Rahman, one of the travelers on the Kabul-Kandahar highway, told Salam Watandar: “We were traveling to Kandahar province, we faced many problems on the way because the roads are broken. It is a highway that connects many provinces. This road should be taken care of, our wish is that this road be reconstructed soon.”

Hazratullah, one of the drivers on the Zabul-Kandahar route, also complained about the road damage, saying: “The roads are broken. This short route is asphalted in six or seven places. In the past, we traveled from Qalat to Kandahar in three hours but now it takes six hours to travel this route.”

We wanted to have the opinion of the Ministry of Public Works in this report, but to no avail.

Ahmed Ahmadi, the head of Zabul public works department, said that the work of rebuilding the Qalat-Kandahar road has started in some areas, and with its completion, people’s problems will be reduced to some extent. According to him, the reconstruction of this section of the Kabul-Kandahar highway may take up to two years, which includes the construction of seven large bridges, more than 100 small culverts and nearly 179 kilometers of the road.
