Analysts see the UN pursuing world powers’ interests in Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) -Analysts believe the UN representation is only pursuing world powers’ interests in Afghanistan.

Although nearly two years have passed since the rule of the Islamic Emirate, but despite the efforts of the international community, the political, economic and human rights situation in Afghanistan is still critical.

A number of experts in international relations say that the United Nations is acting on the basis of the interests and policies of powerful countries in solving the current crisis in Afghanistan, and for this reason, no problem has been solved in Afghanistan so far.

International relations expert Mahmoud Aztarabi said that in many cases, the United Nations has acted more on the interests of the United States instead of playing a constructive role in solving Afghanistan’s problems.

He said: “Since the role of the United Nations does not have an executive guarantee, it has more of an advisory and encouraging aspect. For this reason, this role has not been very appropriate, the role of the United Nations has come under the influence of the United States’ foreign policy and promotes peace and stability in Afghanistan based on the interests of those countries.”

According to Mr. Aztarabi, the role of the United Nations to solve crises can be effective when this organization maintains its independence.

Meanwhile, Seyed Zia Hosseini, another expert on international relations, said that the main reason for the non-productive role of the United Nations in Afghanistan was the influence of its decisions on the politics of powerful countries.

He added: “The UN acts according to the interests of the countries that determine the affairs of the United Nations, such as the United States and other countries. Rather than solving the problem of Afghanistan, they add to its problem. Of course, the meetings they have held so far have been attempts to reach a final decision that needs time.”

However, legal experts believe that the main reason for the United Nations’ inattention to Afghanistan is the non-recognition of the government of the Islamic Emirate. According to them, the internal and external policies of the Islamic Emirate government should be codified and this government should be accountable to the international community.

They say that the first step to get out of the ambiguous political, economic and human rights situation is to launch a national discourse and reach a single point of view among the country’s leaders.

On the other hand, citizens also criticize the unsuccessful efforts of the United Nations and say that this organization has not taken serious steps to solve the crisis in Afghanistan in nearly two years.

According to them, the United Nations does not act impartially in Afghanistan, and instead of working to ensure the rights of the Afghan people, it pursues the interests of powerful countries.

It should be mentioned that the United Nations has held several regional and global meetings to resolve the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, and the last meeting of this kind was held in Doha, Qatar.
