UNAMA says it cannon operate with the ban on female staff

KABUL (SW) – The Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has warned that it cannot operate without female employees.

The office of the UN mission in Afghanistan has said that it is seriously concerned about the prohibition of female employees to work in Nangarhar province.

In a statement, the UNAMA added: “We remind the governing authorities that the UN departments cannot function without women staff, nor can vital assistance be provided.”

It should be mentioned that last year, after issuing the decree banning girls’ education, the Islamic Emirate also issued a decree banning women from working in domestic and foreign non-governmental institutions in Afghanistan. This decision of the Islamic Emirate has faced widespread reactions.

This is despite the fact that Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, after issuing the decree banning the work of women in domestic and foreign non-governmental institutions, said that this decree was issued to “protect the dignity and chastity” of women and that it applies to all non-governmental institutions, including the organization of the United Nations.
