Dire dearth of health services in Maidan Wardak

MAIDAN CITY (SW) – The dire dearth of health services in remote districts of Maidan Wardak province has been adding to the woes of the locals.

Ahmad Javad, a resident of Behsud district, told Salam Watandar that there is only one medical center in this district that does not provide any services. He wants the Ministry of Public Health and international institutions to increase improve medical services in Behsud district and address the health problems of the residents of this district.

Ahmad Javad added: “The doctors can’t even inject the medicine properly. A male doctor and a female doctor work in this clinic. For many patients, drugs must be brought from the market, because there is no medicine in the clinic and people cannot afford to buy it.”

Currently, citizens in different provinces, including Maidan Wardak, do not have access to sufficient medical facilities and have to travel long distances to other provinces to treat their patients.

Hafizullah Tesal, another resident of Maidan Wardak, said that the problem of shortage of doctors and medicine in the remote districts of this province has doubled compared to the past, and many families take their patients to Maidan Shahr or Kabul for treatment. He wants the government to activate advanced and well-equipped hospitals in every district.

Hafizullah said: “People in remote districts and villages of Maidan Wardak do not have full access to health services. Ordinary people and patients are facing many problems. The shortage of medicine and female specialist doctors and the deterioration of the roads are among the factors that have caused the residents of this province to face problems.”

However, the local authorities in Maidan Wardak say that the provision of medical services in Maidan Shahr and the districts of this province has increased compared to the past and there are female doctors and medicine available in all the clinics of Maidan Wardak districts. They emphasized that they are trying to increase medical services in the districts and remote areas of Maidan Wardak with the coordination of the Ministry of Public Health and the cooperation of a number of families and international institutions.

Wahidullah Sarvari, the spokesman of Maidan Wardak governor, told Salam Watandar: “Health centers are active in all districts and villages. We and the patients to have no problems. There are female doctors in all district hospitals. If a problem is found, we will try to solve it without delay.”

At the same time, the residents of a number of districts in the neighboring provinces of Maidan Wardak, such as Logar and Ghazni, are also complaining about the lack of female specialist doctors and the fact that female patients are facing many problems in these districts.
