PARUN (SW) – A 26-year-old conflict between the Kamoz and Kishtuz tribes over the land in Kamdesh district of Nuristan ended and they returned to their villages.

Mohammad Naeem, a leader of the Kishtuz tribe, told Salam Watandar that 500 people from both tribes have been killed in this feud over land and water that has been going on for the past 26 years.

Another member of this tribe, Bashir Ahmad, who returned to his village after 25 years, said that the houses were completely destroyed and his village has also turned into a forest. “The residents of the village do not have access to any basic facilities of life. We want the government to help us.”

Abdul Rahman, another resident of Kamdesh district, said that the people of these tribes are now living in tents. According to him, the government should build schools, hospitals and roads for the residents of this area.

At the same time, the spokesman of the governor of Nuristan, Saifuddin Sokh, said that the tribes of Kamuz and Kishtuz made peace almost three months ago and so far about 400 families have returned to their villages.

According to him, the government has also distributed basic aid to a number of returned families. The spokesman of the governor of Nuristan added that he is trying to provide basic facilities for these people.

Nuristan is a mountainous province in the east of the country where most of its residents do not have access to basic services.
