KABUL (SW) – In the past three months, as a result of heavy rain in different parts of Afghanistan, devastating floods have occurred, which have caused casualties and financial losses.

According to the disasters management authorities, 11 people have been killed and 74 people have been injured due to natural incidents in this period.

Shafiullah Rahimi, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Disaster Management, told Salam Watandar that during this period, 1,779 residential houses were also destroyed. “We are trying to take care of those who have suffered from natural events in the least amount of time. Our budget is limited. When the destruction and damage is done, it is fixed and budgeted.”

Ahmad, a resident of Parwan, whose house was damaged by the flood in recent days, said: “The government should identify the places where the flood originates and control its path. The flood should be diverted to a place where people will not suffer.”

Citizens affected by natural events also complain about the government’s failure to reduce destruction and rescue them.

Ruhollah Ghafouri, a resident of Sar-e-Pul province said that the flood damaged his land and destroyed gardens. “The rescue projects implemented in this area are not in the interest of the people at all and have had no effect. We are worried about floods in the future.”

Ziauddin Sarfraz, a resident of Darzab district, said: “We have always been in a lot of agony and are still suffering. If we are not paid attention to, it will become more than this. People’s houses and lands are destroyed because there is a flood every year.”

It should be mentioned that last year, natural events in Afghanistan left scores of people dead and inflicted losses worth more than 2 billion dollars.
