KABUL (SW) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has stated that Afghanistan has the highest maternal mortality rate in Asia.

This UNHCR has tweeted that it trains non-professional midwives in remote areas of Afghanistan so that women have better access to maternity services.

This is despite the fact that the United Nations Population Fund said not long ago that during the past two decades, maternal mortality has decreased from 1,450 to 638 cases per 100,000 births in the country.

The United Nations Population Fund added that, based on estimates, from 2022 to 2025, 51,000 women may die during childbirth due to the economic crisis and the inefficiency of the health system.
