200 Afghans among the thousands of earthquake victims in Turkey

MONITORING (SW) – At least 200 Afghan refugees are among the thousands of earthquake victims in Turkey, said a former official ina statement.

Abdullah Qarlaq, the former governor of Takhar, who lives in Turkey, has gone to the earthquake-hit area in Hatay province of Turkey as part of a delegation from the “Afghanistan National Islamic Movement Party”.

The former governor of Takhar has said in a video statement that only in one village,  about 200 Afghan citizens died and 300 others were injured.

Mr. Qarlaq added that about 1,500 families live in this area, with a total population of about 20,000. According to him, most of the residents of this area are Afghan citizens.

The former governor of Takhar also said that people in this area have lost everything and are living under tents in the cold weather. He asks other Afghan citizens in Turkey to help these people.

According to the latest official statistics released, the death toll from the deadly earthquake on Monday morning in Turkey and Syria has exceeded 21,500. Of these, at least 18,342 people died in Turkey and 3,377 people died in Syria.

Reuters news agency has reported that despite the fact that several people were pulled out alive from under the rubble of the buildings after 79 hours of the earthquake; But there is not much hope for the survival of the victims trapped under the rubble of the ruined cities.
