Top US envoy on tour for “unified” response to the Islamic Emirate’s policies

MONITORING (SW) – The US’ Special Representative for Afghanistan (SRA) Thomas West will travel to Pakistan, Germany, and Switzerland January 29 – February 4 to consult with partners, Afghans, and humanitarian relief organizations regarding shared interests in Afghanistan.

“The Taliban’s recent edicts have presented the international community with extraordinary challenges as we seek to support the Afghan people and protect our interests”, said a statement issued by the State Department.

“SRA West will work with counterparts to refine a unified regional and international response that reflects a collective commitment to Afghan women and girls’ rights and access to vital aid”, it added.

This comes as the Ministry of Higher Education of the Islamic Emirate has ordered universities and private higher education institutions not to recruit female students. A letter of the Ministry of Higher Education is circulating on social networks in this regard.

In this letter, it is stated that universities and private higher education institutes should not recruit girls in the spring exams, and it is forbidden to register girls in the entrance exam. In this letter, it is written that the registration of female students is not allowed until further notice.

In this letter, it is also stated that universities and private institutions of higher education are obliged to inform the Ministry of Higher Education and the National Examinations Administration five days before the entrance exam, so that a joint board can be appointed to supervise the entrance exam process.
