Martin Griffiths meets Sirajuddin Haqqani in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – Acting Minister of the Interior Affairs, Sirajuddin Haqqani, has met Martin Griffiths, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, and his accompanying delegation.

In this meeting, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs asked the Islamic Emirate leadership that the ban on women’s education and work should be reversed as soon as possible.

“We should not criticize each other’s actions more because excessive criticism closes the ways of understanding, but I emphasize on women’s education and work that this problem should be resolved as soon as possible.”

Quoting Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Interior Ministry statement said that in the field of education and work of women, there is no question of permanent deprivation and “in the educational system, it is the difference of views that will be resolved.”

Mr. Haqqani said that Afghanistan has spent nearly half a century in wars and “education is the basic need of our society that is being taken care of.”

The Acting Minister of Interior added: “With the implementation of a uniform system, it is now necessary to sweat more for the stability of Afghanistan, and after decades, a comprehensive security has been established in the country, and the world should support these developments.”

The Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations for humanitarian affairs has recently arrived in Afghanistan at the head of a delegation. In separate meetings with Amir Khan Muttaqi and Abdul Salam Hanafi earlier this week, he raised his concern about the ban on women’s education and work.
