Martin Griffiths meets Amir Khan Mutaqqi in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – Martin Griffiths, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, has met with Amir Khan Mutaqqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate.
Zia Ahmad Takal, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has said in a series of tweets that in this meeting, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs announced the collection of 4 billion and 600 million dollars in aid for distribution to 28 million needy people in Afghanistan.

Mr. Griffiths, in addition to announcing his readiness to provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, also shared with Amir Khan Muttaqi the concern of the United Nations about preventing women from education and work.

Meanwhile, Amir Khan Muttaqi said in this meeting: “Afghanistan is a part of the international community and the United Nations has a responsibility to play a constructive role in bringing Afghanistan and the world coming closer together.”

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs has also asked the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs to share the recent achievements and opportunities with the international community in addition to the criticisms and gaps in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) has said that 28 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian aid.

It should be mentioned that earlier, Amina Mohammad, the other Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, during a trip to Afghanistan, demanded the return of women’s right to education and work by the Islamic Emirate.
