Harsh winter makes life difficult for residents of remote areas

KABUL (SW) – Heavy snowfall during the harsh winter has made life difficult for many residents in the rural and remote corners of Afghanistan.

A number of poor families in Bamiyan and Daikandi provinces told Salam Watandar they are in dire need of aid and support.

Shakila, who is a resident of Bamiyan and is the head of a family of six, said that she and her children have become sick due to the cold weather. “The livelihood is very difficult, there are no food items, the prices are high. The aid organization did not help us, they helps those who have vehicles, or are drivers or employees of the organization”.

On the other hand, the residents of Daikundi province also complained about poverty in this province and say that they cannot meet their food needs in these cold nights and days of winter and they are unable to buy food items to warm themselves.

Separately, a local source in Baghlan province told Salam Watandar that the roads of seven villages in this province have been closed to traffic as a result of heavy snowfall, and the residents of these villages have faced many problems.

The source added that the villagers have been unable to transport their patients to the clinics due to the closure of the communication routes of these villages.

The local authorities of Baghlan have not said anything about this yet.
