ISLAMABAD (SW) – Hundreds of Afghan journalists living in Pakistan have staged a protest in Islamabad in demand for attention by the international community and international institutions supporting journalists.

These journalists criticized the international community, particularly thd US, Canada and European countries, for not fulfilling their promises in regard to visas.

Najibullah Habibi, the head of the group of Afghan journalists living in Pakistan, called on the international community to listen to the voice of Afghan journalists and take necessary steps for their evacuation.

He said that the international community, especially the United States, Canada and European countries, promised to transfer them to these countries as soon as the Islamic Emirate came to power in Afghanistan, and based on that, the journalists went to Pakistan, but now they are spending miserable days and nights there.

Referring to the problems of Afghan journalists in Pakistan, Habibi said that the international community, especially the United Nations and international support organizations for journalists, have the responsibility to solve the problems of Afghan journalists in Pakistan and send them out of the country as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the member of the relations committee of Afghan journalists living in Pakistan, Gibran Lorand, while criticizing the international community, asked the international community not to forget the Afghan journalists living in this country who left the country due to various problems.

Mr. Lorand said that the international community and international organizations, especially the United Nations and organizations supporting journalists, should understand the problems and threats faced by journalists living in third countries and send them to safe countries as soon as possible.

It should be noted that the human rights activists based in Pakistan also met the Afghan journalists in this protest meeting and together they asked the international community, especially the United Nations, the US, Canada and European countries, to end the waiting period.

Afghan journalists living in Pakistan have protested several times before, but they remain unlucky even after more than a year has passed.

After the rule of the Islamic Emirate in the country, hundreds of journalists left the country and immigrated to Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and other countries of the region and thousands became unemployed. Also, hundreds of media outlets have stopped their activities and many others are dealing with severe economic problems.
