Fuel prices go up as tankers remain stuck at ports

KANDAHAR CITY (SW) – Traders say that fuel prices are soaring up in the market due to the tankers held up at the ports on the borders.

Officials of the Kandahar Chamber of Commerce and Investment say that the price of fuel has increased unprecedentedly in recent days. According to them, the price of diesel has increased compared to petrol and this has caused many problems to the citizens.

Masoud Ahmad Rahat, head of the Kandahar Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said in a press conference in Kabul today that many oil trucks are stuck in the country’s ports due to quality control.

He added that oil tankers, especially diesel carriers, are waiting for the monitoring and evaluation of Norm and Standard Authority in the commercial ports of the country.

On the other hand, Yunus Mohmand, the deputy of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said that businessmen and investors are facing many challenges in the field of taxation.

He added that the Islamic Emirate should create a specific committee to support investors and meet their challenges.

The representatives of the Prime Minister’s Economic Commission has emphasized in the meeting that the problems of businessmen and investors will be solved as soon as possible.
