MAIDAN CITY (SW) – Farmers in Maidan Wardak province say their cherry orchards have produced high yields, but due to lack of market they sell their products at half price.

Gardeners want the authorities to market cherry products inside and outside the country.

Seyed Rasool, one of the gardeners in Maidan Wardak, says cherry is a new fruit in Maidan Wardak and has shown positive results. “Gardeners get good yield every year, but there is no suitable market.”

Jan Agha, another gardener in Maidan Wardak, said the production in the gardens has increased significantly. The fruit is delicious and of high quality. “You can see that the cherries have fallen like this and are sold at half price due to lack of market. “Up to seven kilograms are sold in the garden for 80 to 100 afghanis only.”

Meanwhile, the officials of the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Maidan Wardak confirm the increase in cherry yields in this province, but they say that they are trying to market this product inside and outside the country.

Abdul Jabbar Khalid, Head of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Maidan Wardak, told Salam Watandar that the government plans to create cherry orchards in the distant areas of this province in the future.

“We are planning to create cherry orchards in distant districts of this province. Efforts have also been started for marketing to solve these problems”.
