Debate in the US Congress over Afghanistan is important, says analysts

KABUL (SW) – Analysts believe a forthcoming debate in the US Congress over the situation in Afghanistan is going to be of high importance for the war-torn country.

Political analyst Tariq Farhadi says the meeting will be held at the request of Democratic members of Congress in the near future. He added that Democrats in the US Congress are upset that the State Department has not discussed many issues related to Afghanistan and that they do not know what has happened in Afghanistan in the last 10 months or so.

According to Tariq Farhadi, members of the US Congress will ask the Secretary of State to present his future plans for Afghanistan.

Nusratullah Haqpal, another political analyst, says that in light of recent statements and the views of various American political groups and politicians think that the deal with the Islamic Emirate will be considered. He added that US officials were likely to be advised at the meeting that they needed to engage with the Islamic Emirate.

However, Khaplavak Zazi, another political analyst, believes that the United States is not interacting with the Islamic Emirate and, on the contrary, is increasing sanctions and pressure on it.

He said there was no hope of helping Afghanistan’s new regime at a meeting hosted by the US Congress, and that the United States had submitted a list to the United Nations that would restrict the travel of a number of Islamic Emirate officials. According to him, the Islamic Emirate must reconsider its priorities and accept the demands of the international community or find an alternative to it.
