KABUL (SW) – Thousands of people have lost their jobs upon dissolution of various commissions and bodies by the Islamic Emirate authorities.
The Islamic Emirate authorities recently issued a letter announcing dissolution of the Independent Human Rights Commission, the Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of the Constitution, the High Council for National Reconciliation, the National Security Council and the Secretariat of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house of the parliament) and Meshrano Jirga (upper house of the parliament).
With the dissolution of these bodies, about 6,000 employees have become jobless who have not been paid for months.
Abdul Qadir Zazi, former head of the Wolesi Jirga’s secretariat, told Salam Watandar that at least 1000 civil servants, 500 security personnel and 2,000 contract workers were employed here. He added that since March, their salaries have been slashed and they have been left destitute.
“It’s not a good idea to dismantle a professional body,” he said. “This is a negative message for the future youth. They believe that higher education is not the answer. Because the result is an unknown fate. ”
Meanwhile, a former senator, who did not want to be named, said that with the closure of the parliament, about 6000 employees were facing a dire economic situation.
“Now they have no salary, life is very difficult,” he said. “We know employees who may not have food today. They are very poor and cannot afford to earn a living.”
A source in the Commission for the Oversight of the Implementation of the Constitution said on condition of anonymity that the staff of the agency did not have the basic necessities of life and were living in appalling conditions.
A former staff member of the Independent Human Rights Commission (IHRC), who also did not want to be named, said that with the suspension of the commission, about 450 field and provincial staff had lost their jobs and their condition was “worrying”.
At the same time, dozens of staff members of the High Council for National Reconciliation and the National Security Council are also facing a similar fate.
Meanwhile, some employees of these disbanded agencies have criticized the decision of the government of the Islamic Emirate, saying that with the rule of the Islamic Emirate, they have lost their jobs and cannot meet the needs of their lives.
Tamana, one such former public servant said: “I was the breadwinner of the house. I was responsible for the family expenses. We are currently living in a rented house and I have not paid my rent for three months now. ”
However, Deputy Spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, Inamullah Samangani, said that the Human Rights Commission, the Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of the Constitution, the High Council for National Reconciliation, the National Security Council and the Secretariat of the Wolesi Jirga and Meshrano Jirga have been dissolved due to ‘inactivity’.
“The national budget for the fiscal year has been prepared based on the current realities, because some institutions are not needed and have no functioning and the budget has not been taken into account and have been dissolved. In the future, these agencies may be reactivated. ”
