Signs of an historic city emerge in Zabul

QALAT (SW) – Authorities in Zabul province claim remains of a cave tens of meters underground have been found with marks of an historic city with ancient buildings.

Hamad Niazi, Zabul’s director of information and culture, told Salam Watandar that although the cave already existed in the district, no professional investigation had been carried out to determine whether it was a remnant of an ancient historic city or a natural disaster in the form of buildings.

The head of information and culture of Zabul added that there is darkness in this cave because of which no one has been able to find the end so far. He stated that a professional investigation into the cave has been proposed to the Ministry of Information and Culture to clarify whether the buildings inside the cave already exist or have been erected naturally.

Officials from the Zabul Department of Information and Culture emphasize that if the cave is visited, it will attract many tourists.

However, some Zabul residents believe that the cave is a remnant of a historic city where in the past a number of religious followers from distant lands came to visit the existing buildings.

Historic sites are a major tourist attraction in some of Afghanistan’s provinces, but some of these sites have not yet received the attention of governments and some are being demolished.
