Resurging string of terrorist attacks spark concerns

KABUL (SW) – The resurging string of terrorist attacks across the country has sparked concerns amongst the citizens.

The deteriorating security situation in recent days have raised serious concerns among Kabul residents. Some residents of the capital say that the explosions in crowded places have caused fear and panic among them. They emphasized that they have no immunity anywhere in the country and are not sure whether they will return home when they leave.

Residents of Kabul accuse the Islamic Emirate of failing to ensure the safety of the citizens, adding that the government should stop condemning these attacks and instead fulfill its commitments to improve the security situation.

“Such attacks have made people very worried and upset,” said Abuzar Hassani, a Kabul resident. “We see that many students do not attend school or their attendance is very low. The lack of security has led to fewer worshipers in mosques.”

The increase in suicide attacks and explosions in the country, in addition to domestic concerns and criticism, has also led to international reactions. In the past week, several explosions took place in Kabul, Balkh, Kunduz and Nangarhar, leaving heavy casualties.

Attacks on academic centers in Kabul and attacks on mosques in Balkh and Kunduz have drawn condemnation and concern from the UN Security Council, Amnesty International and many diplomatic missions that are calling for immediate action to prevent such attacks.

In the most recent case, members of the UN Security Council, while condemning the attacks, called for the perpetrators, supporters and organizers to be brought to justice.

The recent bombings have targeted mostly Shiite Hazaras, prompting a backlash from social media users. Social media users have launched a campaign called “Stop the Hazara Genocide.” A number of social media users have joined the campaign, saying that the Hazara genocide case should be investigated by international courts.

We wanted to have the views of the officials of the Islamic Emirate regarding the actions of the government to ensure the security of the citizens, but repeated calls were not answered.
