Quadripartite meeting on cards to address Afghan refugees issues

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations of the Islamic Emirate has announced that it will hold a quadripartite meeting to address the situation and problems of Afghan refugees in neighboring countries.

The meeting is scheduled to take place next month among officials from Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Officials at the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations say the meeting is set to discuss the plight of Afghan refugees and ways to address their situation.

This comes as Afghan refugees in the neighboring countries are faced with an array of issues.

Viral videos posted on social media show Afghan migrants being harassed by security forces and some Iranian citizens.

Following the broadcast of these video of the persecution of Afghan refugees in Iran, a number of citizens in Kabul and the provinces of Herat and Khost protested in front of Iranian missions. Protesters in Herat set fire to the gate of the Iranian consulate and threw stones at its building.

In response to the protests, the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the charge d’affaires of the Afghan embassy in Tehran. The Iranian government also called these videos a ‘conspiracy’ to spoil relations between the two countries.
