Power supply disrupted from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan

KABUL (SW) – Strong winds and thunderstorms have been blamed for disruption in the supply of electricity from neighboring Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

The power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkar (DABS) noted on Saturday in two separate announcements that Uzbekistan’s electricity supply to Kabul and Turkmenistan’s electricity supply to Herat had been cut off. The first announcement from the DABS stated that the electricity supply to Uzbekistan from Kabul was cut off due to a severe storm.

Upon learning of this, DABS connected the Tajik-Turkmen electricity import network to the Kabul line one by one so that the citizens of Kabul would not face a shortage of electricity, the statement said. It also said that it is trying to solve the problem as soon as possible and return the electricity to normal.

At the same time, DABS said that Turkmenistan’s electricity supply to Herat had been cut off due to a severe storm in Robat-e-Sangi district.

The announcement stated that the technical teams of the company found the cut point, but due to the intensity of the storm and rain, they were not able to reconnect it. The Company has emphasized that the technical teams will try to reconnect the power line as the storm subsides.

On Sunday  DABS announced resumption of power supply from the two countries.
