Karzai blames the US for instability in Afghanistan

MONITORING (SW) – Former president Hamid Karzai has said that with the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, the citizens of Afghanistan have not yet achieved lasting peace and stability.

He said in an exclusive interview with an Iranian media that the US and other foreign countries have caused troubles for the country’s citizens in the last 20 years. He stressed that these foreign countries had come to Afghanistan with the slogan of fighting terrorism, but they caused great harm to the citizens of this country.

“The US slogan to fight terrorism has caused great suffering for the Afghan people, the US slogan to fight terrorism has backfired, the homes of the Afghan people have been bombed and destroyed, and the people of this country have been killed in these attacks,” Karzai said.

He expressed hope that the Islamic Emirate can achieve forming a representative government by referring to its opponents and adhering to the Constitution and by holding a ‘Loya Jirga’.

Meanwhile, a number of political analysts have endorsed Karzai’s remarks, saying that billions of dollars have been spent in Afghanistan over the past 20 years in the presence of foreign powers, but no fundamental work was done in this country.

Noor Shah Noorani, a political analyst, said Afghanistan is still not self-sufficient despite the huge amount of money spent here. He added that the US and its allies’ presence in Afghanistan to fight terrorism was ineffective.

However, other political analysts were critical of Hamid Karzai’s recent remarks. They believed that the 20-year presence of the US and other countries in Afghanistan was more effective than described by the former president.

Shuja Maasheer, a political analyst, said there was insecurity and other problems in Afghanistan during Karzai’s presidency, but he did not say anything about these challenges and the ineffectiveness of the Western presence.

This political scientist considered Hamid Karzai’s remarks as an effort to cover his own shortcomings.
