Media is getting systematically censored, says TSH

MONITORING (SW) – The Free Speech Hub has portrayed a grim state of affairs in the media sector in Afghanistan following the rise to power of the Islamic Emirate here.

The Free Speech Hub said in a statement that with the advent of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the media sector has been severely damaged and severely restricted. The statement said that the Afghan media was not completely free and was systematically getting censored.

The Free Speech Hub has expressed concern about severe and unprecedented pressure on the media and journalists in Afghanistan, saying that journalists face various forms of coercion, pressure and threats. It emphasized that this type of behavior has put journalists under severe psychological pressure and has caused a number of prominent journalists to quit their jobs and live in secret in their homes.

The House has condemned the curbs on freedom of expression, systematic censorship and growing pressure on the media. Emphasizing the immunity of the right to freedom of expression as a fundamental human right, the organization called on the leaders of the Islamic Emirate to end repression of the media and freedom of expression, and to guarantee the immunity of journalists and freedom of expression.

The statement also called on the international community and international media organizations to pay attention to this issue, both to address the plight of journalists in Afghanistan and to protect freedom of expression as the best achievement of the last 20 years.
