Another media outlet ceases operations in Afghanistan

GHOR (SW) – Lack of financial support, technical glitches and security concerns have led to the closure of another radio station in Ghor province.

Officials at a local radio station in Ghor called ‘Sarhad’ said they had stopped broadcasting due to financial problems, a lack of electricity and security concerns. Sayed Maroof Saeedi, the head of Sarhad Radio in Ghor, told Salam Watandar that with the closure of the radio station, many residents of the province have been deprived of access to information.

According to the head of Ghor’s Sarhad Radio, they now only operate through social media platforms.

Sarhad Radio was established seven years ago in Ferozkoh, the capital of Ghor province.

The local radio station employed nine people, including five women. Its activities covered news, and other matters related to education, religion, culture, politics and human rights.

It is noteworthy that the poor financial situation and security problems are the two main challenges faced by many journalists after the fall of the previous government. Many journalist and media workers are now worried about their future.

According to reports, about 153 media outlets in the country have been forced to suspend their broadcasts due to various reasons in recent weeks.
