Only 4 foreign diplomatic missions operating in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – Since the fall of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the Taliban, only four diplomatic missions are left functioning in the capital Kabul.

After the Taliban took control of Kabul, the process of shutting down of embassies in Kabul accelerated, with major countries, including the United States and Britain, evacuating staff and closing all embassies.

However, Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan are among the countries that have insisted on continuing their operations in Kabul and have said they have no plans to close their embassies.

This comes as analysts believe that the closure of embassies in the country has dire consequences for the social and political situation. Experts believe the lack of diplomatic relations with the world will lead to the isolation of the country.

Sayed Baqir Mohseni, one such analyst, believed that the formation of a unilateral government by the Taliban will not be accepted in the world. He said this could even result in closing down of the remaining embassies as well.

According to him, this is a sign of distrust and the fact that the Taliban have not been able to gain the trust of the world.

He warned if the Taliban continued with their exclusive approach, the country will become politically isolated and the government will run out of financial resources, which will lead to absolute poverty for the people.

Meanwhile, Bilal Karimi, a Taliban spokesman, stressed that efforts were being made to address the concerns of other countries and reopen their embassies.

Following the recent developments in the country, a number of countries first relocated their embassies to Kabul Airport to complete the process of evacuating their citizens and staff.

The United States and Britain were among the last countries to close their embassies in Kabul after their troops withdrew from Afghanistan.
