WHO head visits Kabul to assess public health situation

KABUL (SW) – The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus visited Kabul on Monday to assess the ground situation in Afghanistan.

The head of the Ministry of Health, Waheed Majrooh, told the media that the World Health Organization head had arrived in Kabul with his accompanying delegation.

The head of the World Health Organization was accompanied by a number of other senior officials at this global body.

This is the first visit by the head of the World Health Organization and its senior officials to Afghanistan since the Taliban took control of the country. Their visit comes after the suspension of World Bank funding for healthcare in Afghanistan.

It is said that the purpose of the visit of senior officials of the World Health Organization to Afghanistan is to discuss the continuation of aid and assistance.
