Taliban disperse protests in Balkh, Kapisa and Parwan

KAPISA (SW) – Dozens of women, civil activists and women’s rights activists took to the streets in Kapisa to renounce recent curbs imposed by the Taliban and alleged interference by Pakistan.

Sarah Siret, a women’s rights activist and former official of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, said on the occasion that the protests were organized to also express support for resistance in Panjshir and against Pakistani military’s interventions in there. She said that the fighting led to many sacrifices of women and children in the province.

According to her, the Taliban disrupted this protest movement and dispersed women by force.

Sarah added that the Taliban do not feel morally obliged to hear the words and demands of the people.

Meanwhile, another protester said on the occasion that that the Taliban forced the protesters into a residential house in a bid to prevent them from marching on the streets. She added the Taliban searched the mobile phones of the protesters and took away them.

Similar incidents were reported in the neighboring Parwan province.

Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the local Taliban officials in this regard, but to no avail.

The Taliban said on Wednesday via a statement that the forces of this group are not trained to handle protests and there are no regulations in place for demonstrations so the citizens of the country avoid any civil protest without an approval from the government.

A demonstration in Balkh province has also been dispersed by the Taliban and journalists were not allowed to cover it.
