Afghanistan calls for UNSC meeting

KABUL (SW) – Afghanistan has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on escalation of war and humanitarian crisis here.

Foreign minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar said in Kabul on Tuesday that the issue of ensuring human rights and preventing their violation is a shared responsibility of Afghanistan and the international community.

He added that the international community must work with Afghanistan immediately and stand by the country and stop the current war as soon as possible. The foreign minister called on the international community to convene a special meeting of the UN Security Council to take political, legal and security measures in this regard.

“We raise the issue that a special UN Security Council meeting should be convened and that special measures should be taken by the UN Security Council to take political, legal and legal action and, if necessary, security measures,” said Mohammad Hanif Atmar.

“The response from international partners has been very positive and commendable.”

Minister Atmar added an international human rights system must be set up to respond to the ongoing crimes in Afghanistan. He emphasized that the measures taken so far have not been enough and that serious attention should be paid in this regard.

This come as clashes between security forces and Taliban fighters have intensified in many provinces, killing and wounding scores of civilians on a daily basis.
