12 civilians lose lives to roadside bomb in Paktia

GARDEZ (SW) – At least 12 members of a single family were killed and two others were injured when a roadside bomb exploded in the Sayed Karam district of Paktia province, confirmed officials.

Nurjan, a member of the family who brought two injured children from the incident to Paktia Provincial Hospital, told Salam Watandar that three men, three women and six children, including his father, were killed in the incident and two other members of the family were injured.

He said all of them were riding in a car and were on the way to Gardez when they struck a roadside mine in the Chinoi area of ​​Syed Karam district.

Noorjan, who lost 12 members of his family in the blast, said families who are stranded in their areas due to the war face the same fate when they try to move to safer areas.

According to him, the Taliban have littered the roads in war zones with landmines and when people try to leave these areas, they face the same fate.

Mohammad Rahman Qaderi, a member of the Paktia Provincial Council, confirmed that 12 civilians had been killed in the incident.

Meanwhile, Paktia officials said they are gathering information about the incident and will share it with the media after obtaining accurate casualty figures.

The incident comes as fighting between security forces and the Taliban has intensified recently in a number of provinces, with surge in the number of civilian casualties.
