Religious scholars gather in Kabul to denounce raging war

KABUL (SW) – Senior religious figures here on Wednesday dubbed the raging war in Afghanistan as a treachery against the people.

At a gathering in Kabul, a number of religious scholars called the ongoing security situation in the country worrisome and accused the Taliban of causing the situation.

Expressing views at this gathering, the religious scholars said the Taliban are killing civilians in Afghanistan under the pretext of the presence of foreign troops while with the withdrawal of foreign troops, the violence has escalated.

Abdul Qadir Qanet, head of the Kabul Ulema Council, said that the Taliban’s attacks in different parts of the country had made people’s lives difficult and have deprived them of peace. According to him, the escalation of the war by the Taliban is unacceptable. He underlined the religious scholars around the world and in Afghanistan have called the ongoing war a sedition.

“The current war has been called as ‘fitna’ (conspiracy/ treachery) by the scholars of Afghanistan and the world, and the reality is the same as was explained by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) over 140 years ago”, he said, adding the war has deprived the nation of all of its wealth

The religious scholars at the meeting said that the government and the Taliban should resolve their differences through talks and put an end to the ongoing war.

Maulvi Jamaluddin, head of the Kabul District Council of Religious Scholars, said the two sides should return to the negotiating table and agree on a ceasefire to end the fighting.

Similar voices have been raised many times before for peace and ceasefire in the country.
