MPs raise questions over the BSA with the US

KABUL (SW) – A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the country, the spread of the coronavirus and other problems faced by the citizens.

Taking part in the debate, they said the US had signed the Bilateral Security Agreement with the Afghan government, but was now leaving the country in clear violation of the agreement. According to the MPs, the government officials and those who insisted on signing the agreement were also unable to ask the US about respecting the BSA.

Mohammad Sadiq Hassanzada, a member of the Wolesi Jirga, blamed the United States for the current situation in the country and said that the war had not only abated but also intensified after the signing of the agreement.

Another member of the Wolesi Jirga, Ustad Hanif, also said that the United States does not value the lives of other people, but only care about its own interests. He stressed that the house must evaluate the 20-year achievements during the US invasion.

He said the United States was leaving Afghanistan at a time when the country is faced with corruption, insecurity, ethnic divisions as well as kidnappings and assassinations.

The speaker of the Wolesi Jirga, Mir Rahman Rahmani, also expressed concern over the growing insecurity in the country and instructed the commission to summon security officials to discuss the issue.
