KABUL (SW) – Amid surging Taliban assaults and capturing of districts, social media users have thrashed the government’s poor management on the battlefield.
A number of citizens on social media have accused the government of incompetence, saying that the Presidential Palace and security officials have no plans to take the country out of the current difficult situation.
The back-to-back fall of a number of districts to the Taliban in recent days have further angered citizens already angry at the government over appalling state of affairs.

In the most recent event on Monday, the Presidential Palace celebrated Mother’s Day and spoke about the fundamental role of the mother in shaping a peaceful and prosperous society.
In a video message, First Lady Rula Ghani congratulated mothers who lost their children on the battlefield on Mother’s Day. “Congratulations on Mother’s Day to mothers whose children are martyred in trenches in defense of the national honor,” Rula Ghani said in a statement.
But, this message of the First Lady of the country was met with sharp reactions and criticism from citizens on social networks. A number of Facebook users wrote at the bottom of the message that many mothers are grieving their children with the fall of the districts and the poor management of the government, and these messages do not cure their pain.
Angry social media users say that as the districts fall to the Taliban on a daily basis, the presidency should focus on improving the security situation instead of issuing such messages.
Tawfiq, a social media user, wrote: “In a situation where districts are being evacuated one after another in favor of the enemy in a dubious way, our youth are being sent to the ‘slaughterhouse’ and military equipment is being handed over to the enemy, Mr. Ghani’s supporters call on the people to remain silent in the face of this”.
Muzaffar Mazhar, another social media user, wrote against this post of the president that with the fall of each district, hundreds of families will flee and dozens of mothers will lose their loved ones.
“Hundreds of families are displaced every day as you make tactical retreats from the districts, and hundreds of young people are killed in retaliation. Hundreds of mothers are saddened by the loss of their loved ones. As the commander-in-chief, take the security of the people seriously and do not congratulate mothers who are losing their loved ones every day on Mother’s Day.”
Meanwhile, First Vice President Amrullah Saleh has accused critics of the government of “satire” and called them “reactionary”.
The presidency spokesmen declined to comment on citizens’ criticisms.
“The enemy of the soil and the people is known,” Saleh wrote in a note on his Facebook page today in response to citizens’ criticism of the government’s poor performance. “It is a good thing to stand by the defenders of the soil and the people by any means. In such cases, the reactionary criticizes revert to sarcasm. The choice is yours”, he wrote.
These remarks of the First Vice President did not go unanswered. A number of users have also criticized him.
Citizens’ criticism of the recent collapse of districts and mismanagement of the government on the battlefield comes at a time when, according to statistics, more than 30 districts in various provinces have fallen to the Taliban.
