100-bed dedicated facility for Covid-19 patients in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – A 100-bed dedicated facility for coronavirus patients was inaugurated by the health minister Waheed Majroh at the Mohammad Ali Jinnah Hospital here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the health minister said this was the maiden facility of the sort in the country with for Covid-19 patients to be equipped with an oxygen generator. Waheed Majroh said that if the situation becomes critical, the center can also allocate up to 200 beds for the patients.



He further warned the country will witness peak of the pandemic in the next two to four weeks, and citizens should take the ministry’s recommendations seriously.

“A month ago, the health sector shared its concern with the media that the situation would worsen if citizens did not pay attention,” said Majroh. “I said three days ago that we are slowly entering a critical phase, but today I say that we are entering the critical phase very quickly.”



The head of the Ministry of Public Health said that the lack of oxygen in the country was one of the major challenges facing the health sector. According to him, there are now seven oxygen generators in Kabul.

As per the latest figures, 34 Covid-19 patients lost their lives in the country overnight and 1,509 new cases of infections were recorded. With this, the total number of infections surged to 76,653 and the number of corresponding deaths reached to 3068.
