COVID-19 pandemic claims 10 more lives

KABUL (SW) – Amid third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, at least ten more people lost their lives to COVID-19, said officials on Friday.

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said it had examined 2,003 cases of suspected coronavirus in past 24 hours. According to the ministry, the coronavirus has killed 10 people and infected at least 300 others during the period.

The cases were recorded in nine provinces. In this period, 58 patients who had previously contracted the virus got well.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, since the onset of the coronavirus, it has tested 417,383 people across the country who were suspected of being infected with the virus, of which 61,755 have been infected while 2783 people have died as a result. Meanwhile, about 54,019 people who were infected with the disease have recovered.



Mirwais Alizay, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, told Salam Watandar that the number of people infected with the coronavirus had risen by 50 to 60 percent since last week. According to him, 250 to 380 new cases of coronavirus have been registered on daily basis this week while as last week this figure was between 120 and 180.

Earlier this week, the the Ministry of Public Health warned of dire consequences for public in case of continued defiance towards safety and hygiene during the ongoing third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Alizay said on Tuesday many citizens did not take the ministry’s recommendations seriously. He said it was feared that their recklessness during Eid visits to friends and relatives would worsen the situation.
