Taliban warn of counteractions over delay in exit of foreign troops

KABUL (SW) – The Taliban have warned the US of counteractions over its alleged violation of Doha Agreement in regard to withdrawal of troops by May 01.

In a statement, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed said the group’s leadership would decide on the future line of action. “As withdrawal of foreign forces from #Afghanistan by agreed upon May 1st deadline has passed, this violation in principle has opened the way for IEA (Taliban) Mujahidin to take every counteraction it deems appropriate against the occupying forces”, he said.

The statement added the Taliban now await what decision the leadership takes “in light of the sovereignty, values and higher interests of the country”.

American troops began withdrawing from Afghanistan as part of the Biden administration’s plan to fully leave the war-hit country after 20 years of conflict, CNN reported Thursday. President Joe Biden announced earlier this month that the US would withdraw all of its forces by Sept. 11 — the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks that prompted the American military operation.

According to the same officials, contractors and US government workers are also departing, said the network.
