Slain female journalists laid to rest in Jalalabad  

JALALABAD (SW) – The three female media workers killed in Nangarhar on Tuesday were laid to rest here on Wednesday.

The bodies of Sadiah Sadat, Shahnaz Rufi and Morsal Wahidi, three employees of Enekas private TV, who were killed in an armed attack in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, were buried following funeral prayers.

Sadiah had been translating Turkish and Indian serials and other serials into Pashto for the past two years. Although, she did not appear on television, she had a huge fan base. A high-school graduate, Sadiah had aspired to study law.

Roshan, one of her brothers, said his sister died with all of her dreams. Relatives of the three slain media workers said they were in poor financial condition.

Zalmai Latifi, the head of enekas TV, said that his employees wished they could finish their education, but were working due to poverty and financial problems.

One of the perpetrators of the assassination has been arrested, but Ataullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar, said that Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhail, the governor of Nangarhar province, had told security officials in Nangarhar to identify and arrest all perpetrators or would be sacked.

The Taliban have denied involvement in the attack.

Reuters reports that the ISIS-K group has claimed responsibility for the armed attack.

About three months ago, Malala Maiwand, a journalists associated with Enekas TV, was killed in a similar attack.
