Academic year for schools ends on a low note

KABUL (SW) – The academic year for schools has ended on a low note with many students expressing dissatisfaction with the studies and the annual examinations.

A number of students told Salam Watandar thet they undertook the exams without having learned anything significant. They added the exams were based on the limited few chapters while the online studies did not help either.

One such students, Diana said the students studied only for four months and read only two chapters on each subject. “We did not study until the end, and as far as we studied, they (teachers) asked the questions”, she said. Tahmeenah, another student, said only pages of lessons were taught at school throughout the academic year.

According to the students, due to the incompleteness of the lessons, the teachers conducted the exam, which will not have good results for the students in the coming years.

The Ministry of Education acknowledges that this year’s curriculum is not fully taught and therefore the exams were not based on the entire syllabus.

Najiba Arian, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Education, stressed that this shortcoming would be remedied next year.

The schools have been reopened after months of closure due to coronavirus.
