India to provide 500,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine

 

KABUL (SW) – India has promised to provide up to 500,000 doses of its indigenous coronavirus vaccine to Afghanistan, health ministry announced on Monday.

Deputy health minister Bashir Noormal told a press conference here the does would help administer the vaccine to up to 250,000 individuals in the country. He urged corresponding authorities to gear-up for the administration of this vaccine in the country.

The Ministry of Public Health has so far not revealed the date when this vaccine would arrive in Afghanistan.

Earlier, the MoPH had stated that Afghanistan would receive the vaccine in six months’ time. The deputy minister further said that the World Vaccine Union, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank have pledged to assist Afghanistan in getting the vulnerable population vaccinated.

Meanwhile, 4 people died of Covid-19 in the country and a total of 78 new cases were identified during past 24 hours.

According to the daily report by the MoPh, since the beginning of the spread of the corona virus until today, 240,769 people across the country have been tested for the virus. Of these, 54,750 people across the country have been infected with the virus and 2,390 have died from it. Similarly, 47,365 people have recovered after first getting infected.
