Taliban kill 17 security forces in Kunduz, Baghlan and Badakhshan

 

KUNDUZ (SW) – The Taliban’s overnight assaults in Kunduz, Badakhshan and Baghlan province killed at least 17 security forces, sources confirmed on Tuesday.

Security sources in Kunduz province, who did not want to be named, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban attacked two security checkpoints in the “Arab” area of ​​Chahar Dara district of the province around 10 pm last night.

According to the source, the clash between Taliban and security forces lasted for several hours and during this time, the additional forces led by the district police chief Mohammad Omer Saleh were ambushed by the Taliban in the “Dobandi” area of ​​the district.

The source added that 10 policemen, including Saleh, were killed and four others were wounded in the Taliban attack.

According to the source, the Taliban then seized two checkpoints in the “Arab” area, captured six security forces and took away all their weapons and ammunition.

The Kunduz police spokesman Enamauddin Rahmani confirmed the Taliban attack on Chahar Dara district and said that the Taliban attack on police checkpoints in Dobandi area of ​the district had been repulsed by security forces.

According to him, 5 Taliban insurgents were killed and 3 others were wounded as a result of these clashes.

The Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Arian also confirmed last night’s clashes in Kunduz and said he would share details with the media later.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, security sources in Baghlan province told Salam Watandar that the Taliban attacked three police checkpoints in the Gholam Bay area in central Baghlan district last night, killing five security personnel and wounding two others.

According to sources, one of the checkpoints fell to the Taliban during the clashes, but after several hours of clashes between security forces and the Taliban, security forces regained control of the checkpoint.

The Taliban have also claimed responsibility for the attack.

Elsewhere in Badakhshan, the insurgents and security forces clashes in Baharak district resulting in killing of Mehrabuddin Amiri, director operations for police in the district.
