KABUL (SW) – Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the High Council of National Reconciliation, has said serious discussions between government and Taliban negotiating delegations in Doha will begin on Wednesday.
He said this at a conference titled “National Peace Conference, Media and Civil Society”. Abdullah said the first round of talks in Doha over procedure for intra-Afghan talks have concluded.
He added that today the delegations of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban had consultations among them, and more serious discussions are scheduled to begin on Wednesday between the two.
Fatemeh Gilani, a female member of Afghan government’s negotiating team, said in a video message at the meeting that after the completion of the first phase, work on the agenda has now begun and discussions between the negotiating teams are ongoing.
At this moot, representatives of the media stressed they should not be kept in the dark about developments on the peace front.
Abdul Mujeeb Khalwatgar, head of Nai – Supporting Open Media organization, said an observer mission from media should be involved in the talks.
Sima Samar, Minister of State for Human Rights and International Relations, said that the participation of women, war victims, families of victims and civil society in the intra-Afghan dialogue was essential.
