Female journalist Malalai killed in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (SW) – Officials in Nangarhar confirmed a female journalist was gunned down by unknown assailants here on Thursday.

The governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said Malalai Maiwand of the Enekas radio and TV network along with her driver was heading to her office in the provincial capital, Jalalabad city when armed attackers shot her dead. He said the armed attackers fled the site of the attack while both Malalai Maiwand and her driver Mohammad Tahir died on the spot.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

The attack has been widely condemned by the government, journalist fraternity and representatives of the international community in Kabul.

Last month, Elyaas Dai, a leading journalist was gunned down in southern Helmand province while Yama Siyawash, former presenter at Tolo News, lost his life to a magnetic bomb attached to his car.
