Saleh, Mohib dodge WJ’s call for briefing over security affairs

KABUL (SW) – Vice President Amrullah Saleh and National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib on Saturday dodged the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) call for briefing over security affairs.

Statements were shared with the MPs on behalf of both Saleh and Mohib about their stance in this connection. The VP said in his statement that he is interested to attend the session considering the ‘proper protocol’.

The statement on behalf of the NSA said that Mohib has an advisory role and has no executive power. However, he too expressed readiness to attend any future session in line with the ‘proper protocol’.

On Wednesday, the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) asked top security leadership to brief the house over circumstances surrounding the brazen terrorist attack on the Kabul University.

During Wednesday’s session, the house decided to ask the National Security Advisor Hamdullah Muhib, head of the National Directorate of Security Ahmad Zia Siraj, defense minister Assadullah Khalid and interior minister Mohammad Massoud Andarabi to brief the lawmakers.

The members also criticized government’s security strategy in failing to curb mounting terrorist attacks.
