KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani through a decree has ordered the release of a number of Pakistani prisoners sentenced in Afghanistan.

The text of the decree, which was circulated on social media, stated that the reason for the release of Pakistani prisoners from prisons in Afghanistan was to show “good faith and strengthen friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

“I am confident that Aslam Farooqi (head of Daesh in Afghanistan and Pakistan) and hundreds of Pakistani terrorists who killed thousands of our compatriots will be released as bribes to the ISI,” Rahmatullah Nabil, the former head of National Directorate of Security, wrote on his Facebook page in response to the release of Pakistani prisoners.

Referring to President Ghani’s order to release Pakistani prisoners, Nabil said that President Ghani had increased “problems” in Afghanistan in order to stay in power.

As per documents circulating in the social media, the decree issued by President Ghani has four articles:

Article 1 of the decree states: “Those prisoners of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan who have been sentenced to up to one month shall be pardoned and released for the remainder of their imprisonment.”

The second article of the decree reads: “The fines of the detainees referred to in the first article of this decree shall be pardoned and those of the detainees of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan who have completed their imprisonment shall be pardoned for non-payment of the fine.”

Article 3 states that the responsibility for the implementation of this decree has been entrusted to the commission that carried out the amnesty decree for the punishment of “detainees and prisoners” on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

In Article 4, the time of implementation of this decree is stated as Nov. 20.

The order to release Pakistani prisoners was signed a day before Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Kabul. Imran Khan arrived in Kabul on a pre-announced trip on Thursday, the 21 Nov. The Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul said the purpose of the visit was to strengthen bilateral relations.

Few months back, the NDS arrested Aslam Farooqi, the leader of the Khorasan branch of the ISIS, along with nineteen of his companions.

In his initial confession, Aslam Farooqi revealed the extensive links of regional intelligence agencies with the Khorasan branch of the ISIS.

Shortly after Aslam Farooqi was arrested, the Pakistani government summoned the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad and demanded that he (Aslam Farooqi) be extradited to Pakistan.
