Ambassador Pontecorvo assures NATO support to provincial governors

KABUL (SW) – The NATO Senior Civilian Representative for Afghanistan has assured the Alliance’s support in a series of face-to-face and online meetings with governors of various provinces.

Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo discussed in an online meeting with the governor of Helmand, Gen. Mohammad Yasin Khan the humanitarian operations by NATO here.

‘#Helmand Governor Brig. Gen. Mohammad Yasin Khan briefed @ResoluteSupport D-COM Lt. Gen. Hill and myself on security and humanitarian situation in the Province. #NATO continues its support to Afghan Security Forces in Helmand”, he tweeted.

Separately, he also spoke with the governor of Ghor. “Interesting discussion with #Ghor Provincial Governor Kohnaward on recent security challenges the Province is facing. #NATO is supportive of the Afghan Security Forces efforts in Ghor for lasting peace and security.’

Governor Noor Mohammad told Salam Watandar the NATO SCR assured support for the security forces and the people of Ghor. This comes amid escalating violence and unrest in the province.

Ambassador Pontecorvo met in person with the governor of Laghman Rahmatullah Yarmal. ‘Insightful talk with Governor @RYarmal on the #AfghanistanPeaceProcess & the security situation in #Laghman. Violence continues to jeopardize the peace process & must come down immediately. #NATO stands with the Afghan security forces’, he tweeted.
