The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that in February it distributed medical supplies and screened individuals at border points for infectious diseases.

According to WHO the medical supplies included Basic and Primary Health Care (PHC) kits for over 236,000 people and trauma surgery kits for about 2,700 patients, helping strengthen the national health system.

In response to a surge in returnees, WHO screened over 30,000 people, enabling early detection of potential outbreaks like COVID-19 and dengue fever. Measles cases rose 35%, with the fatality rate doubling from 0.3% to 0.6%, highlighting the urgent need to protect 264,000 children and vulnerable populations.

Afghanistan’s health system has long relied on international aid, and WHO continues to support it by strengthening health services and ensuring access to essential care.
