The Security Council, by adopting a resolution, has extended the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for an additional three months.

The resolution was adopted unanimously, with all 15 members of the Security Council voting in favor.

Previously, UNAMA’s mandate had been extended for one-year periods, but this is the first time it has been extended for three months due to opposition from the United States.

UNAMA is responsible for coordinating international assistance, monitoring the political situation, and supporting humanitarian activities in Afghanistan. The UNAMA’s mandate is periodically renewed by the Security Council.
