Iranian state television announced Saturday night that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has died.

ABC News reports that, according to an official statement aired on Iranian state television, Khamenei was carrying out his regular duties at his workplace when the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Iranian state television said claims from Israeli media that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was “in a secure and hidden location” when he was killed were false, noting he was at his workplace when the incident occurred. Iranian media also reported that several members of his family — including his daughter, grandchild, son‑in‑law and daughter‑in‑law — were killed in the strikes.

Previously, sources said that Iranian Defence Minister Amir Nasirzadeh and Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammad Pakpour were killed in the attacks, and that five other senior military commanders were also reported dead, including Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader.
