400 martyred in Pakistan airstrike; Bennett urges de-escalation

Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, has called on Pakistan and the Islamic Emirate to de-escalate tensions and exercise maximum restraint.

Bennett wrote today (Tuesday, March 17) on his X account that he is dismayed by Pakistan’s airstrikes in Afghanistan and the resulting civilian casualties.

The UN Human Rights Council rapporteur urged Pakistan and the Islamic Emirate to respect international law, including the protection of civilians and civilian facilities such as hospitals.

Last night, the Pakistani military targeted the 2,000-bed hospital for drug rehabilitation in Kabul, resulting in 400 people being martyred and 250 injured.
