The Afghanistan office of the World Health Organization said it continues to support people with cancer in Afghanistan on World Cancer Day.

WHO announced in a statement on Wednesday, February 4, on their X account that even small actions to prevent cancer can save lives.

The organization said it focuses on early detection, raising awareness, effective treatment, and compassionate care for people affected by cancer.

WHO also reported that nearly 40% of cancer cases in 2022, which affected 7.1 million people, were linked to preventable factors.

The organization added that quitting smoking, eating healthy, exercising, using clean energy, and getting vaccines can help reduce the risk of cancer.

World Cancer Day was established on February 4, 2000, by the Union for International Cancer Control to raise awareness about cancer and encourage prevention.
